Poker Freerolls refer to online poker tournaments that are, strictly speaking, free to join. That is, there are no requirements before one is allowed to join and play yet one can actually win real money or credits which can be used to play higher-stakes games. They are actually promotional tournaments sponsored by poker sites to advertise their services to poker enthusiasts.
A freeroll tournament can win an individual $50, $100, $200, or $500 in pot money. Poker Freerolls are therefore great ways to start learning how to play in online poker tournaments since there are no risks involved. They are also a great way for a player to recoup and rebuild his bankroll that had been depleted from previous bad plays.
While technically, poker freerolls are supposed to have no entry requirements, the term freerolls has also been used widely now to refer to online poker tournaments that require a minimum number of hands played and to also online poker tournaments with significantly low buy-ins.
